Altar Servers
Altar Servers have a very special ministry in our parish. By serving at the altar, they assist the priest during Mass and other liturgical celebrations, helping the whole community to pray and worship with reverence.
What Does an Altar Server Do?
Altar Servers assist in many way during the liturgy, such as:
- Carrying the processional cross and candles.
- Assisting with incense and holy water.
- Preparing the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
- Ringing the altar bells at key moments of the Mass.
Servers perform these tasks not just as helpers, but as ministers who play an important role in leading the community in worship.
Who Can Be an Altar Server?
- Boys and Girls who have received their First Holy Communion are welcome to become altar servers.
- Servers should have a love for the Mass, a willingness to serve, and a spirit of reverence and attentiveness.
- Training is provided so that new servers feel confident in their role.
Why Altar Serving Matters
- For the Parish: Altar Servers help make the celebration of the liturgy beautiful, prayerful, and well-organised.
- For the Servers: serving at the altar helps young people grow in their faith, learn more about the Mass, and develop a deeper relationship with Christ. Many priests first heard God’s call while serving at the altar!
- For Families: Having children serve strengthens their sense of belonging and encourages active participation in parish life.
How to Get Involved
If your child is interested in becoming an altar server:
- Speak with the Parish Priest or contact the Parish Office.
- Training sessions are provided for new servers, with ongoing support from experienced servers and leaders.
- Parents are encouraged to support their children in this ministry by helping them prepare and encourage regular participation.
