Social Committee

The Parish Social Committee plays an important role in building a strong, welcoming, and vibrant parish community. Through organising social gatherings, celebrations, and community events, the committee helps create opportunities for parishioners to connect with one another, deepen friendships, and grow in faith together.

Purpose of the Committee

The Parish Social Committee exists to:

  • Foster Community Spirit: Bringing parishioners together in friendship and fellowship outside the liturgy.
  • Welcome New Members: Helping new parishioners feel at home and connected in the parish.
  • Support Parish Life: Assisting with hospitality at parish celebrations, special liturgies, and events.
  • Encourage Participation: Creating opportunities for parishioners of all ages to engage in parish activities.

What the Committee Does

The committee organises a variety of activities and events throughout the year, such as:

  • Parish teas, coffee mornings, or social evenings.
  • Celebrations for feast days, parish anniversaries, or special milestones.
  • Hospitality after Mass or during parish missions and sacramental celebrations.
  • Seasonal gatherings such as Christmas socials, summer picnics, or parish fairs.

Who serves on the Committee?

The Social Committee is comprised of parishioners who enjoy hospitality and have a desire to contribute to creating a warm and friendly parish environment. Members bring different gifts, whether it’s organising, decorating, baking, welcoming, or simply offering a helping hand.

Why the Social Committee Matters

Faith strengthens when it is experienced within a community. By offering opportunities for people to meet, converse, and celebrate together, the Social Committee helps parishioners feel more connected to one another and to the parish life. Social events can be the initial step for newcomers to feel welcomed and for longstanding parishioners to deepen their friendship and sense of belonging.
